Local to Global
KOKU was born from a simple wish: to share the beautiful ingredients, food culture, techniques and stories found in Japan's local regions with people from all over the world.
Through each carefully crafted bowl, we hope you experience the richness of Japanese vegetables, the wisdom of fermentation and the depth of traditional seasonings — all made with quiet pride, one bowl at a time. KOKU is not just a place to eat. It is a small gateway to discover the charm of local Japan.
The name KOKU
Time, a moment. Making the time you spend with us a little richer.
Depth of flavour. Surprisingly deep, even though it is entirely plant-based.
Rich, full, deep. Leaving your memories of the trip a shade stronger.
Members
At KOKU, the cooking matters — and so does the meeting.
We are a small shop, so please feel free to talk to us.
Our staff often start a conversation with you, too.
-
Yuko- Restaurant Owner
- Certified Sake Sommelier
Our slightly scatterbrained owner. Give her a chance and she will happily talk all afternoon.
-
Rii- Main Chef
- Certified Sake Sommelier
The person who decides how KOKU tastes. Works quietly behind everything, strong in both will and hand.
-
Yukari- Manager
- Vegan Food Coordinator
- Tea Ceremony Master
Our far-too-charming manager. Loves eating every bit as much as cooking.
-
Keiko- Rice Meister
- Medicinal Cuisine Meister
Everyone here calls her Mama. Big-hearted, and steady as anything.
-
Lio- Indian Cuisine Chef
- Yoga Instructor
A smile that settles the whole room. A powerhouse mother of three, married to her Indian husband.
-
Naoya- Calligrapher
- Kyoto University Student, Agriculture
The little brother everyone adores. The youngest of us, and somehow the most grown-up.
-
Koume- Kansai Gaidai University Student, Foreign Languages
- Studied Abroad in Norway
The little sister everyone adores — though she is in fact the eldest of six. Volleyball, kickboxing: an athlete through and through.
